Great things at church
I can’t think of many places I would rather be on Sunday than at church surrounded by people I love, and who love me. We gather together for the common cause of serving God, and growing by grace in his word. We gain knowledge, wisdom and understanding. (Proverbs-1:7, 4:5&7, 9:10; Psalm-111:10) Because we all love God and each other we also get to provoke one another to love and good works. (Hebrews-10:24) These are great things we get to be partakers of because we have a God who loves us, and called us to gather together in his name. (Matthew-18:20; Hebrews-10:25) We are blessed to have the privilege of serving God, and following his commandments.
God is also doing some great things in the church. This Sunday we baptized 5 new members into our congregation. Some were saved a few years ago, and some a couple of months ago. Their spiritual age is not important, but their obedience to the ordinance of believer’s baptism is. (Mark-16:16; Matthew-3:13) Even Jesus was baptized. After baptism service ended, we had pop corn preaching. Each man who was called upon preached the gospel. (Romans-3:23; 6:23; 5:8, 12; 10:9, 10 & 13; 8:1) They were all great messages. Afterwards, two visitors who came to see their family members get baptized, came forward and confessed Christ as their personal savior! Yes, God is doing great things in our little church. We are having another baptism service next Sunday.
Great things at home
One of the people baptized on Sunday was our little Ruth. We have prayed since before we even met her that God would save her young, and use her greatly. She was saved at the ripe young age of 6 years. She got saved on October 1, 2023 after her daddy preached a message about living for God and the consequences of rejecting him. Her uncle Bill had the pleasure of leading her through the gospel that morning. She had been asking about salvation at home a lot, but that morning it clicked. I am so very thankful that God is still in the business of answering prayer, and saving souls. I can see God’s hand at work in her heart. She is still a child and will behave as such, but we can all tell that something is different about her.
As I wrote about in a previous post, God is working on giving us a new home. We could not be more excited about it. This is something we have worked toward for quite a long time now. God is always right and knows so much better than we do. We have always known that it was God who closed the door on previous home purchases, and he was never long in showing us why. The fact that he has allowed us to go through with it this time is all but overwhelming to me right now. To say that I am excited to see what he has in store for us would be an extreme understatement. I do believe that he has us exactly where he wants us, doing exactly what he wants us to do. That’s enough to shout about.
Great things all around us
There are great things going on all around us all the time. Our neighbors for instance, have been asking more and more about the Bible. They seem to be really searching and I am praying they come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior soon. One of them had gunmen come into her school a couple of weeks ago. One of them sat down right next to her in the lunchroom. They were waiting for the signal to start shooting when the mother of a kid involved in the attempt called the school and told them what was about to happen. I am not sure of all of the details, or how the mother found out. All I know is that I am very thankful to God that they did not accomplish their task.
We have air to breathe and a roof over our heads. We have people who love us even though we are at times unlovable. All of our basic needs are met, and we have the ability to care for and help others. The laundry may seem to never end, but isn’t it great to have clothes to wear? Sometimes it doesn’t seem like there is time to get the dishes done fifteen times a day. I sure am glad we have food to eat though. If we just look we can find greatness in anything. Even in trouble. If we keep our eye on God, and trust him to bring us through to the other side of the storm, we will find greatness.
