My Husband’s Heart
My husband’s heart is truly one that seeks after God and His divine truth. This is evident in not only his preaching but in his life. As his wife I should know. This Sunday he preached a message that was, in a word, amazing. I have been accused of being, “His biggest fan,” before, so maybe that’s just me cheering for him. Either way, based on conversation afterward, I do believe that the congregation agrees with me. In this sermon he asked the question, “Have you forsaken the promises of God?” I want to share some of this with you today. I truly hope and pray that it blesses you as it has me.
Isaiah 2:1-4
1 The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord’s house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.
3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.
4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. (KJV)
This is the scripture he preached out of last Sunday. He did a brief overview of that sermon for those who were out sick last week to catch them up. In a nutshell, God promised them some things that should’ve made them happy. I don’t know about you, but I am looking forward to the day that Jesus brings these things to pass. When he eliminates all corruption and sin and rules the world in truth and righteousness. We will be able to physically sit at his feet and learn straight from his own mouth. It will be great.
He will reign as King and His law will be the only law. (See also Zechariah chapter 14)
Isaiah 2:5-9
5 O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the Lord.
6 Therefore thou hast forsaken thy people the house of Jacob, because they be replenished from the east, and are soothsayers like the Philistines, and they please themselves in the children of strangers.
7 Their land also is full of silver and gold, neither is there any end of their treasures; their land is also full of horses, neither is there any end of their chariots:
8 Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made:
9 And the mean man boweth down, and the great man humbleth himself: therefore forgive them not.
This is where I came up with the title, Have You Forsaken the Promises of God. After all that God had done for Israel they again turned away from him. They were looking to the world for their sustenance and entertainment. Going to the enemies of God to provide for them instead of trusting God to take care of them as he had always done.
Have you forsaken God’s promises?
We as Christians today still rely on God only when we feel it is convenient for us to. We have forsaken the promises of God just as they did. If we purposed to remember that God is right here with us, pleading with us to fulfil his perfect will for our life, we might live a more joyful life. We could stop looking to the world for everything and remember the promises God has given us. Such as “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” (Hebrews 13:5), and “If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it.” (John 14:14) I could go on all night quoting the promises God has given us. And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. (Romans 4:21)
Too many of our churches have also gone away from God’s promises and conformed to the world. Romans 12 :2 tells us to “be not conformed to this world,” Why then do we have so many who do? We also see in II Corinthians 6:17 that we are to “come out from among them, and be ye separate,” but so often you can’t tell the world from the church. Titus 2:14 says, “Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” We should stand out as weird to the world. If we are just like them and they see no difference in us, how can we expect them to want the glorious gift we have for them in Christ.
Please ask yourself, “Am I one of these who has forgotten God’s promises?” “Am I living in remembrance of what he has done for me?”
He is here to hold your hand
Remember not only is God here pleading with us to give up our sin and live victoriously for him, but he is here holding our hand. If he called you to do it, no matter how big or small it may seem, he will do it with/for you. I Thessalonians 5:24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. He is here with you when you are reading your Bible, but he is also here when you aren’t. Are you accepting his help? Are you allowing your light to shine? We have such a wonderful Father in heaven, he doesn’t just say go, do. He goes with us and does the work for us, too. He will not leave us to our own devices, and make us go alone.
How are you doing in tis area? Are you telling God no, or are you taking his hand? This is another area where we stand out in the world. When we live as if God were our chauffeur, and he’s right there holding our hand, we will love people as he loves them. Yes, even that guy who cut you off on your way to the store with your kids in the car. And the lady at the zoo that tried to plow down your 3 year old because of a little rain. You will truly have joy in your heart living with your hand in his. People will notice. You will have a much bigger impact on this dark world with his marvellous light. (I Peter 2:9)
Do you stand out?
II Corinthians 4:3 says, ” But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:” Are you hiding the gospel? How are you sharing it? Can a stranger you pass at the grocery store tell there is something different about you? Has anyone ever told you that they could tell, from talking to you once that you have something real? We can only have true peace and joy if we are living the best we can for God. He created us. That in itself is enough of a reason to serve him. Then he Gave us the very best he had to offer, his Son. Who laid down his life for us. And we walk around as if he means nothing to us when we mean so much to him.
As if this weren’t enough, he gives us numerous promises that he intends to actually keep. Not to mention the blessings he pours out upon us that are beyond measure. If you haven’t given him your whole heart, why? He wants all of you, not just you on Sunday. He wants you to be completely in love with him, and perfect in him. What’s keeping you from living in the pure love and joy he gives freely?
If you would like to know my testimony you can read it here. I hope you found this encouraging and challenging.
