The Closet Purge Motivation You Need

My Closet Purge Motivation

My closet purge motivation may seem crazy to some, but very important to others. It started a couple of weeks ago when I was standing in my kitchen preparing lunch for the kids. I began thinking about the chemicals that are on my clothing. Then I began to think about how synthetic fibers are made, and the effects they may have on our health. Those thoughts then turned into a feeling that I am not doing enough to protect my kids from as much chemical exposure as I can.

I mean, I make all of our food from scratch, and source only organic ingredients for our food. I don’t use toxic cook or bakeware. All of our plates and things are free of chemical/heavy metal toxins. We do not use artificial scents in our home, and we make as much of our cleaners as possible. All of that aside, the feeling that I may be buying, and dressing myself and my kids in toxic materials was overwhelming.

So, I did what any normal person does, and I began to research. What I found out gave me the motivation I needed to completely purge my closet and those of my kids with no reservation or guilt.

Your motivation may be different

Your motivation may be different from mine, but you can still borrow from my motivation. I went to work looking at all the tags to determine what fibers were used in each garments’ construction. I quickly realized that just because a fabric may feel like cotton or linen, does not mean that it is. At one point, I began to wonder if I would have anything left in my closet by the time I was done. You do not have to go to the extremes that I did! You do you. My hope is that I can help you get the motivation that you need to just do it.

Maybe you have been thinking about it for a while. Your closet may be busting at the seams, or you are just feeling like you’ve worn the things in it for too long. It is even completely possible that you still love what you have. Even if you do, maybe you just need to rotate. Maybe you are just overwhelmed every time you look at your closet. Don’t let your closet or your clothes bully you! If you don’t feel amazing in it, let it go. If it gives you anxiety to think about what you are going to wear, it is time to purge your closet, my friend. You don’t have to live this way any longer. If I can go from this:

To this:

Then I am confident you can also take just 10 minutes to make a significant dent in yours as well. Trust me, you will thank yourself!

It doesn’t have to take all day.

You will be pleasantly surprised by how quickly you can get a lot accomplished once you find your motivation. It only took me about 15 minutes to go through my entire closet. Then about 5 more minutes to take off all the hangers, and bag everything up into my contractor bag. If all you have is 5 minutes, just set a timer and grab and toss. If you love it and can’t live without it, move it to a designated spot for the things you want to keep. When you come across something you don’t love, then take it off the hanger and toss it into your bag.

When your timer goes off, you are done. Take that bag or box, whatever you have, and put it in your car. The next time you are out, take it to the donation center of your choice. You will be amazed by the relief you will feel even after only 5 minutes. If you have more time, go for it longer. You can do this as many times as it takes to truly feel good about your clothes, your inventory management, and yourself. You are worth it.
